SWEP helps an Atlanta Habitat Homeowner with a ‘Brush with Kindness’

SWEP Duluth recently partnered with an Atlanta Habitat homeowner to give her home a “Brush with Kindness.” The BWK program offers current homeowners exterior home painting and minor repair services with the help of volunteers.

SWEP Duluth sent 13 volunteers to an Atlanta Habitat homeowner’s house in south east Atlanta on April 13th.   SWEP team members spent the day helping paint the exterior of the house including all the trim work.

As one of the largest of 1,500 U.S. affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International, and the largest nonprofit homebuilder in Atlanta and Fulton County, Atlanta Habitat transforms neighborhoods by bringing generous donors and hardworking volunteers together with working families to build high quality, green homes and to revitalize neighborhoods. The result is dramatic, positive differences in the lives of family members and in neighborhoods.

Income-qualified homebuyer families can buy affordable homes through no-profit, no-interest loans. Homebuyers complete 250 sweat-equity hours and other requirements, pay for their homes and all upkeep and maintain current payments on their properties.

In 2016, Atlanta Habitat expanded its mission to revitalize neighborhoods by offering critical repair services to seniors and military veterans in the same neighborhoods where it builds new homes. The organization also purchases blighted properties and rehabs them to like-new condition.

The critical repair program, Repair with Kindness, along with Brush with Kindness expand Atlanta Habitat’s ability to reach more new families each year and to benefit the whole neighborhood.

SWEP is proud to be a part of such a wonderful program that helps so many families in the surrounding communities and hopes to have the chance to participate in more Atlanta Habitat service projects in the future.
